The Ray Walton Rolling Pin Reel is a unique side-casting reel, made famous by one of the most influential barbel anglers of all time, Ray Walton. The “Rolling Pin” was the brainchild of the legendary Ray Walton who shot to fame when he caught many double figure barbel from places other anglers seemed to struggle! The reason for this success was Rays approach. When most baited and waited Ray would take the bait to the fish!

Rays style saw him roll meat baits through swims most would overlook, searching all the river each time he went fishing meant more fish on the bank and continued action in each new area he fished. The rivers where Ray fished were fast and clear rivers and suited this style of fishing where bites could be gentle plucks to arm wrenching takes. The unique design of the reel would allow Ray to cast baits a long way with the finesse and ease of a fixed spool reel, but with the option to control the bait with the same degree of finesse a float angler could with a trotted float.

The Ray Walton Rolling Pin has a unique side casting action which allows the drum to be swivelled through 90 degrees so anglers can cast off the side of their drum. Once cast, anglers then return the drum, to the customary centrepin format.

Both the main body and spool are machined from the highest quality aluminium bar stock, silver anodised for protection. The reel is attached to your rod with a lightweight rod plate machined from bar stock. The back plate, which is finished with laser engraved script, incorporates a simple on/off click drag to the spool operated by a side lever and supports the precision machined stainless steel spindle.

The quick release, ventilated spool is constructed around a centre hub accurately aligned by means of six silver spokes, and houses an improved configuration of double stainless steel bearings. An additional feature is easy removal of the handles, to enable the ultimate purist to hand control the spool for quick line retrieval.

True ’pin reels offer a great fishing experience right out of the box, there’s no better feeling than trotting a float down a streamy river for roach, dace, chub or grayling. In fact, the experience and performance of the reel just gets better and better through regular use. It’s one of the many reasons why vintage reels are so sought after today.
