Sea fishing is hugely popular in the UK, largely due to the easy access to over 11,000 miles of coastline and beaches where there are always opportunities to hook some great fish. The highly corrosive nature of seawater, together with the oft challenging sea conditions means that having good quality sea fishing equipment is essential.

Fishing on the shore

Fishing offshore is largely dependent on having the ability to fish far distances and you should find fishing tools to do this. When fishing on the coast angler casts his or her line, the fish can often rest against the hook rest and wait for the hook to pull at the rope. It must be robust to prevent slipping when using or breaking. Similarly the fishing requirement 100 m from the shore also requires large rods and long sea fishing reels. A specialised beachcaster rod can be cast for up to 200 metres, although the distance can be quite difficult.

Boat fishing

Unlike pier fishing boats can be used for fishing without relying on long lines. Anglers typically take their boats out to a depth where they want to fish and then cast close to them. The shorter fishing rod is typically only 2 meters long and therefore can also be used to catch stronger fish. It's easy for you to use longer rods if you want. If you are looking for the best sea fishery catch, you will find everything from sturdy boats poles to robust and stable terminal tackle. For a big fish you may also need a boat.

Pier fishing

Generally pier fishing requires less casting abilities and a shorter casting time. In addition, the limited available space means you need longer rods. You can therefore support larger fish more strongly unless you purchase the fishing tackle to meet the requirements of the pier. Although you can have greater direct visibility into the deeper sea if fishing from a pier, you have to clear the shoreline to land a line at the depth you want. Buy short rods, strong line & bait and fishing gear for fish.
